Medicare Levy Income Thresholds 2017-18
To help pay for the Medicare health scheme, resident taxpayers are subject to a Medicare Levy. This amount is added to your tax assessment after your income tax has been calculated. Non-residents are not liable to pay the Medicare Levy, however, to claim an exemption you must obtain a Medicare Entitlement Statement.
Medicare Levy Surcharge Thresholds 2017-18
Individuals and families on incomes above the Medicare Levy Surcharge thresholds, who do not have an appropriate level of private health insurance cover, may have to pay the Medicare Levy Surcharge (MLS) for the period they did not have this cover. The Medicare Levy Surcharge is in addition to the 2% Medicare levy.
HELP Repayment Rates 2017-18
You will be required to start repaying your HELP debt when your income is above the minimum threshold for compulsory repayment. The repayment threshold is adjusted each year. For the 2017-18 financial year, you will not have to make a compulsory HELP repayment until your repayment income is above $55,873.
SFSS Repayment Rates 2017-18
You will be required to start repaying your SFSS debt when your repayment income is above the minimum threshold for compulsory repayment. The repayment threshold is adjusted each year. For the 2017-18 financial year, you will not have to make a compulsory SFSS repayment until your repayment income is above $55,873.
